The Water Cellar for Mothers Project launched by the China Women's Development Foundation wins the title Model Charity and Fashion Organization. [CWDF]

National news website Global Times held a charity and fashion awards gala on December 6 at an art center in Beijing.

Co-organized by People.cn, Huanqiu.com and Time under Global Times, the annual multi-disciplinary event is designed to "make charity fashionable and fashion charitable," according to publicity.

This year, the event was held under the theme of "An Efficient Life, A Better World," calling on members of the public to donate to good causes and help solve social issues.

During the ceremony, the Water Cellar for Mothers Project – launched by the China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) to relieve impoverished women from water problems – was granted the title Model Charity and Fashion Organization.

"The project has been carried out with 16 years of persistence; it has been comprehensive, fruitful and advanced with the times," the judges' committee commented.

By the third quarter of this year, the Water Cellar for Mothers scheme had established 1,732 water conservancy projects and 139,500 underground concrete water storage cellars across the country, benefiting over 2.96 million people.

The awards' panel of judges was formed from well-known charity, internet and fashion celebrities who considered three factors – inspiring the public, cross-boundary exploration and effective transmission.

Other honors given out included the Special Enterprise Award, the Most Popular Award and the Charity and Fashion Potential Award.

A total of over 500 experts, celebrities and staff members from charitable enterprises and media websites joined the gathering.
