Organizers in Beijing launched an awareness campaign on September 14 to promote child safety in cars and on the road.

The event was run by Volvo, China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF), United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety Office, the Road Traffic Safety Association of China, and China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC).

Through a series of parent-child activities and lectures, the campaign aims to teach road safety; explain good practice whilst in cars; and, promote legislations related to children's safety in cars.

During the launch, an expert from Volvo discussed the responsibilities of parents driving with babies and the importance of using child booster seats.

Zhao Qin, Volvo Asia Pacific region vice-president, and leaders from Beijing Women's Federation and CATARC presented a Safety Education Promotion Base name plate to a local obstetrics and gynecology hospital.

This year's campaign is the third of its kind that has seen the collaboration between Volvo and United Nations' Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011-2020) scheme. Events will take place in 16 maternity and child healthcare hospitals in Beijing, north China's Tianjin Municipality and southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

Su Fengjie, vice-chairperson of Chinese Women's Research Society, attended the launch.
