The China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) held a conference on July 31 in Beijing to summarize and promote the work of a charity project targeting disadvantaged individuals.

To coincide with the 5th anniversary of the Postal Parcel for Mothers Charity Project – launched by the CWDF to deliver charity packages filled with daily necessities to impoverished mothers – the conference reviewed the results achieved so far.

To date, a total of over 710,000 charity parcels worth more than 100 million yuan (U.S.$ 14,925,373) have been distributed to poverty-stricken women and families among all 31 municipalities, provinces and autonomous regions across China.

This project has positively improved the living conditions of women suffering poverty and made full use of the organization's role in passing on social care, learning people's difficulties, promoting livelihoods and warming people's heart.

During the event, CWDF awarded enterprises and individuals who have made outstanding contributions.

In total, it presented 61 Advanced Units Awards, 20 Service Support Awards, 17 Enterprise Contribution Awards and 60 Individual Contribution Awards.

Meng Xiaosi, member of the 12th Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and director-general of the CWDF (also former vice-president and secretary of the Secretariat of the ACWF), affirmed the significant role that the project played in promoting charity culture and getting people out of difficulties and disasters.

Meng also set four major requirements for the project's future work.

"Firstly, continue to use this project as a platform for carrying out poverty alleviation," she said.

"Furthermore, enhance the implementation of the project and related feedback collection work;

"Thirdly, develop multiple transmission channels from all directions to enlarge the project's social influence;

"Last but not least, take full advantage of online charity platforms to enhance our fund-raising strength."

Other prominent attendees were Tan Lin, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF; Zhen Yan, deputy director of the Committee for Social and Legal Affairs directly under the National Committee of the CPPCC and deputy director-general of the CWDF (former vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF); Qin Guoying, deputy director-general of the CWDF; and, leaders from the China Post Group Corporation.

Moreover, representatives from women's federations and post offices across the country attended.
