National Philanthropy Award for Women Held in Beijing

  Vice-Chairperson and Secretary-General of the China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) Qin Guoying introduced its achievements in the assistance of impoverished women and children in 2013-2014, and disclosed its plan for 2015-2016 at the 3rd National Philanthropy Award for Women ceremony held in Beijing on December 30, 2014.
  Organized by All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and held every two years, the award event aims to promote the popularity of philanthropic culture and the development of public welfare affairs, further inspire public enthusiasm towards the growth of women’s affairs and the construction of a positive social environment for  career development, recognizing consistent contributions made by enterprises and individuals to charity programs connected with the improvement of women’s lives.
  “CWDF completed the construction of 261 water cellars and five centralized water-supply facilities every month during 2013-2014, which benefited 3,694 families with a total population of 18,470 in the improvement of access to safe drinking water. It also assisted the building of water-supply facilities at nine elementary or secondary schools each month in the same period, helping 5,492 students access clean drinking water. Meanwhile, it opened 20 mobile clinics in economically underdeveloped regions under the Health Express for Mothers project and provided underprivileged women with 1.45 million yuan (U.S.$ 221,125) in their business startups every month,” Qin said at the ceremony, adding that more than 27 million people had benefited from its charity programs over the years.
  She noted that recent years had seen a further enlargement of the coverage of CWDF’s charity programs and their effectiveness in the assistance of the target population.

At the award ceremony, Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), China Post Group and other donors were jointly honored for their consistent contributions to Chinese public welfare events.
  Meanwhile, China Everbright Bank and 14 other enterprises or departments pledged that totalled more than 60 million yuan (U.S.$ 9.15 million).

Those present at the award ceremony were Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) and president of All-China Women's Federation (ACWF); Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of ACWF; Zhen Yan, eputy director of the Subcommittee of Social and Legal Affairs under the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), former vice-president and member of the Secretariat of ACWF, and vice-chairperson of CWDF; charity-minded organizations and individuals; as well as representatives of media agencies.
