China Women’s Development Foundation (CWDF) released a video entitled “Reawakening the Source of Life and 14th Founding Anniversary of the Water Cellars for Mothers” project at a gathering held in Beijing on December 22, 2014 in commemoration of the charity program’s birthday.
Co-sponsored by All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and CWDF in 2001, the charity program focuses on helping people in China's western region, especially women, to alleviate poverty caused by severe water shortages.
The video aimed to help the public learn more about water shortages in China and engage in the protection of water resources via recurrence of the development of Water Cellars for Mothers project and its charity stories during the past 14 years.
By the end of 2014, the project had invested over 850 million yuan (U.S. $133 million) in 25 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities to build some 139,000 water cellars, and construct around 1,700 water supply systems. So far, the project has benefited over 2.5 million people.
