A campaign entitled Protect Childhood, Safety on the Way was officially launched by the China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) and Volkswagen (China) Group in Guangzhou, capital of south China’s Guangdong Province, on October 24, 2014.

The campaign aimed to further raise public awareness of the protection of children during traffic accidents, help more vehicle owners equip their cars with safety seats, and ensure kids enjoy a sound childhood.

“The protection of children is of great importance for each family. Both the CWDF and Volkswagen (China) are equally dedicated to sponsoring the charity initiative. It has won huge applause from the public and generated a positive social influence since it was implemented in Jilin, Hubei, Sichuan and other provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities this year,” said Deputy Secretary-General of the CWDF Zhu Xisheng at the launch ceremony, adding that more charity-minded enterprises and individuals should contribute to the campaign in future.

Qiu Mingliang, general-manager of the Sales Department in Southeastern China at Volkswagen (China), spoke with attendees about the latest developments in child safety seats and the importance of the charity initiative in protecting lives.

He added that his firm would donate 156 safety seats to Guangdong Women’s Federation, local kindergartens and families, and further deepen its understanding of the use of safety seats for children.

Liu Shi, a professional from Beijing Police College, was invited to lecture 160 families at the launch ceremony on protecting their children from physical injuries during traffic accidents.

On the sidelines of the launch, organizers also displayed special equipment for children to closely experience the importance of safety seats. The opening of the event in Guangzhou marked the successful conclusion of the year-long campaign across the entire nation.
