The China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) held a charity exhibition and auction gala dinner on June 21 in Los Angeles to promote international awareness of its work.

The event was co-sponsored by the Sino-American Friendship Association with the assistance of Beijing Ants Power Cultural Development Center for Traditional Handicrafts.

The displays aimed to show the development and progress made by women's public welfare organizations in China and provide a new platform for international cultural and artistic exchange.

Sun Lushan, deputy consul-general of the Consulate General of China in LA, delivered the opening speech, giving high praise to the foundation's charitable endeavors.

During the exhibition, Chinese women's traditional handicrafts such as tie-dyed items, embroidery and paper-cuttings were provided by Mom's Handicrafts Cooperative – a charity brand set up by the CWDF to give skills training to disadvantaged female villagers and help them shake off poverty.

Other exhibits included items donated by overseas female artists and a 150-meter long scroll of a dragon-patterned tie-dye artwork designed by Zhang Zhaoda, president of the Presidium of Asia Fashion Federation Chinese Committee, and produced by 100 craftswomen from the Bai and Yi ethnic groups.

Zhang said he would continue his support to the CWDF to help improve female entrepreneurs' lives by offering them more technical, operational and sales support as well as training opportunities.

Yang Feng, a volunteer photographer for Mom's Handcrafts, donated pictures featuring women making handicrafts in the cooperative, contributing strength to the promotion of women's intangible cultural heritages.

All the proceeds from the later auction will be used to support women's public welfare programs run by the CWDF.
