Cooperation Projects

PepsiCo was the first Fortune 500 enterprise to participate in the Water Cellars for Mothers project, which improves access to water for families in remote areas of central and western China.

The company began supporting the initiative in 2011. PepsiCo has since donated 53 million yuan (U.S. $ 8.2 million), built 1,500 water cellars and trained 170,000 farmers. The project has benefited more than 717,000 people across 10 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, including Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Chongqing and Shaanxi.

In June 2011, CEO Indra Nooyi announced that they would donate U.S.$5 million to the Water Cellars for Mothers project, to supply safe drinking water for 500,000 citizens by the end of 2014. It was the company's largest single donation to China's public welfare programs. By October 2013, the programs had benefited 655,000 people in 30 counties of eight provinces.

PepsiCo has shown a long-term commitment to helping the Chinese people, particularly in face of natural disasters. The company has donated nearly 9 million yuan (U.S.$1.4 million) to the China Women’s Development Foundation (CWDF) for emergency relief and post disaster reconstruction.

In 2012, PepsiCo became the first batch of strategic partners of CWDF, due to the company's remarkable achievements in the Water Cellar for Mothers project.
